The Iconic Puzzle Game Didn't Succeed at This Gaming Ceremony — An Additional Classification Might Solve This
Whenever a prominent honors show nears, there’s always a demand to include of new categories to acknowledge underappreciated efforts and satisfy the passions of fans dedicated to specific genres.
Another commentator made the case advocating for terror-themed awards. That would rule. The same goes for board games, which is a passionate advocate's mission. But they will have to forgive me when I prioritize since similar to dedicated enthusiasts, I possess a compelling case backing this proposal is the most urgent and significant. This is the request: We need a category for puzzle games.
The Genre Classification Challenge
Organizing artistic expressions is not a science; opinions vary greatly, and inevitably spark debates concluding with vague boundaries. It's understandable that film award organizations steer clear of genre categories. But it is an essential concession in the world of gaming, showing incredible range they hardly constitute a single creative category.
To recognize the complete range of achievement in video games to be recognized, and for games of all stripes to have a chance for representation, classification by type becomes crucial.
Current Gaming Award Categories
Leading game ceremonies currently feature award types recognizing Action, Adventure-action titles, RPG experiences, Fighting, Simulation and strategy titles, and Sports/Racing games. Collectively, these award types actually cover many game types, making space possible for most games within them.
Not so for puzzle games. There’s simply nowhere to accommodate them. Consider three of recent excellent titles, all very different: building puzzles in a particular game, fast-paced pattern recognition of another game, and the sweetly sociological logic puzzles in another game. What category would fit them between these six categories? Nowhere, that’s where.
Acknowledgment Issues
There are dozens excellent brain-teasers published annually without proper recognition at major award shows, if they accidentally match classification types such as Handheld titles, VR/AR Game, or the extremely competitive Indie races.
- One classic puzzle game got overlooked for anything during that awards season
- Another creative title received no nominations that year
- A beloved organization game received no acknowledgment in 2021
- Limited numbers of brain-teasers scraped into niche award types
Value of Brain-Teasers
These are often small games, yet the craft behind logic titles is of massive significance. Famous handheld logic titles stand as most engaged experiences worldwide maintaining this status for an extended period.
The legendary block-stacking game rivals well-known building titles competing to become highest-selling title ever; it’s also in the running for top gaming experience. Logic titles represent cornerstones within interactive entertainment, and they are in conversation across multiple categories.
Recommendation and Reasoning
Puzzle games wouldn’t have that issue. You could fill a field of five with fascinating, diverse, deserving games annually without trouble — perhaps, with difficulty, because you’d have to leave numerous deserving experiences.
To emphasize again, these represent titles that otherwise have no home during prominent ceremonies. Logic title developers are working at the demanding boundary of video game design, producing among essential manifestations within interactive entertainment. Just like film action specialists, they warrant appreciation. Let’s not keep them waiting 35 years.
